Characters: Deshell, Fesha, Ensill, Ledam, Selmid
Warnings: Brief reference to Selmid witnessing a murder
Notes: Ensill is younger than Ledam, Selmid is between them in age. This takes place in the Urban Fantasy AU.
When Deshell confirmed Selmid didn't have a place to stay, it was an easy decision to make--he and Fesha were licensed foster parents, they had boys his age already, and if anyone could keep a minor witness safe, he was pretty sure it was him.
Fesha was fairly sure Deshell had called in more than a few favors with CPS to get Selmid placed with them, but she didn't mind--she was more than happy to look after him and protect him.
It's usually Mom who brings their foster siblings home--Mom or one of the social workers, anyway--but Dad brought Selmid, peeking out from behind him like Dad could keep bad things away, and Ensill liked that he was his age, and he already knew how awesome Dad was.
Ledam took Selmid into the den before showing him their room, because the den was where Dad kept the old hunting rifle that Mom knew how to use just in case--he figured it would help his foster-brother feel safer.
Selmid crept up the stairs after the older of the cop's two sons, and they finally came to a cluttered room with two sets of bunk beds--the set on the right was unkempt, but the top bunk on the left was freshly made, and there was a yellow stuffed dragon waiting for him on the pillow, and he was pretty sure that between the cop, his wife, and the dragon, the dark man with the knives was never ever going to be able to get him.
