"as long as Mommy and Daddy have been alive"
because that seems like forever,
looking up at them.


I want to live forever--
forever, which right now means
a bright life, open, away from the closeness
of the shadowed, bloody trees, the open ocean
with the sun beating down on her.


I want to live forever--
forever, which right now means
a fairy tale, a legend, a myth of saving the world,
a forever she can't see, but she knows
she will carve out of time.


I want to live forever--
forever, which right now means
family, like it once did,
but a family going forward, not looking back,
her son and daughter.


I want to live forever--
forever, in the end, means
all of those things, parents, light, legend, children,
living and loving and leaving her mark,
a name, a breath, a moment in time.


Her name will live forever.
