Story: The Artwick Defector
Year: 987 FY
Characters: Mel, Riluke
Warnings: References to character death and enslavement
Notes: Takes place in the Incest AU
It was easy to blame him.
From what bits and pieces Captain Taz had been able to get from him, and the information in the Queen's letters, he'd planned and managed the botched, premature escape attempt. If he'd handled it differently, planned better, moved on a different day, her cousin might still be alive.
But if he hadn't...
Isshiri would still be trapped in that hell.
But alive.
But trapped.
Riluke watched him, doing her best to shut down the stream of profanity and unpleasant, misplaced vengeance running through her mind. It wouldn't bring Isshiri back. And it wasn't really his fault.
Besides, he'd at least given Isshiri someone to talk to while he was there. A friend.
No one else in the Islands would have him. And it wasn't his fault. So she opened her home to him.
It was hard to blame him now.
