Story: Dawn
Year: 981 FY
Characters: Mel Artwick
Warnings: References to The Murderer and his crimes and misplaced guilt, references to dehumanization of mages
Mel curled up in the room he'd rented, watching the sky lighten. He hadn't been able to sleep much last night--the whispers he'd heard since arriving here three days before had been bad enough, but today...
Today was the Captain’s birthday. And Mel couldn’t stop thinking about him.
As the rooftops around him shaded from red, to gold, to their everyday colors, he realized with a sick feeling that he wanted him here, looking out for him the way he always had, keeping him safe.
Mel shivered and closed his eyes, waiting for that wish to die.
It didn't.
