All her life, Telri has been on the edge of legends, most of them bad. Her magic, blood-magic, is the stuff of nightmares, and everyone knows it. Everyone has known it for two thousand years.
She grew up in a border town, on the edge of Feredar, and the nightmarish legends coming out of that place are just as bad. But it really only enforces what she already knew--she is dangerous, she can't be trusted, she'll rip the world and everyone she loves apart if she is left unchecked.
Isshiri is the first legend she learns where she thinks--this could be good. She thinks she could attach herself to something good, because he proved them wrong, didn't he? He saved them all, he proved that mages aren't the end of all things, and if one part of it is wrong...well, maybe the rest might be, too.
Telri knows what it's like being on the edge of legends. And she wants to be on the edge of a good one, for once.
As she got to know him, as she uncovered the nightmares beneath his skin, as she fell deeper and deeper in love with her wayward prince, Telri realized--she'd always been on the edge of legends. And even if there were bad parts to Isshiri's, even if there are scars everywhere, this is where she wants to be. Where she needs to be.
Telri spent her life growing up in the shadow of legends, because, good or bad, that's where she belongs.
