Title: What Kirana Sees
Year: 976 FY, 977 FY, 980 FY, 982 FY, 984 FY
Characters: Princess Kirana
Warnings: References to Sending a Message, a brief reference to a fifteen-year-old having sex and a seven-year-old accidentally seeing it

The first one she remembers was the night before her third birthday. Daddy said she was big enough to light her own night-light, and she saw a warm fuzzy thing with a long nose peeking out the light at her, but then Daddy scooped her up and put her in bed.

The next day, 'Lani woke her up with a puppy.

The scariest was only a couple months after that. All smoke and ashes and broken rooms, and 'Sshiri in the middle of it and all she could do was cry and cry and cry and she couldn't even explain 'til after Daddy told her that 'Sshiri was hurt and wouldn't never be the same again.

The silliest one was when Elumi, her puppy, was in her fire trying desperately to get at Mommy's socks. Why Elumi loved socks so much was utterly beyond Kirana, but she went to rescue him just before he managed to sneak into Mommy's dressing room.

The confusingest one was when she saw 'Lani hugging a pretty lady. Only they didn't have any clothes on. When she asked 'Lani about that later, she turned all kinds of funny colors and promised her a box of her favorite candy if she wouldn't tell anyone else what she'd seen.

"What's wrong with hugging?"

"Two boxes."

"...okay...!"

The most dangerous one was when she saw the floor in her favorite shortcut outside weaken, less than ten minutes before it gave way. When she realized how lucky she'd been that she decided to listen to the fire and take a different route, she took Elumi and went to ask Mamma and Daddy if she could enter the temple school next year, when she was old enough.

The saddest ones are coming now. Even though most of the time they don't come without her asking the fire. The priests taught her quick to control it, so she wouldn't get overwhelmed. But now she keeps seeing Auntie Riluke walking away, and, no matter how far she looks ahead, she can never see her coming home.
