Story: The Necessary Letters
Year: 987 FY
Characters: Lady Riluke
Warnings: References to major character/familial death
Notes: This takes place in the Incest AU
My Lord,
Though I am sure you have heard this already, it is my duty to confirm that my cousin, Prince Isshiri, was killed in Feredar. I have seen his body for myself.
Though I understand a declaration of war is inevitable under the circumstances, I must also strongly advise caution in proceeding. In addition to the body, I was given letters from the King's consort, through her granddaughter who helped to smuggle it out. She very carefully confirms that no one in the royal family was directly involved, and indeed several of them are involved in the resistance against the status quo. These include the Queen herself, the eldest daughter and granddaughter (the messenger), and her youngest son. There are possibly others, but those are the only ones I was able to glean from her letter.
Bearing that in mind, I would advise attempting to reach out to this resistance. With their assistance, our vengeance need not result in anarchy and further unnecessary tragedy.
I also convey the personal condolences, etc., of Lady Ras Felden and the various Clan heads, though of course some will be sending their own personal letters.
An official report as well as personal letters of my own to the rest of the family is enclosed.
I remain ever your obedient and affectionate etc.,
Riluke

Highness,
Though I'm sure you've had reports already, it is my duty to confirm that your son was killed in Feredar. My grandfather can inform you of the rest of the circumstances, as will formal report enclosed.
My deepest sympathies,

My dearest uncle,
I know you've heard the rumors, but I wanted to tell you myself. I'm so sorry, but it's true. Isshiri is dead. I saw the body myself, it isn't a mistake.
If you need anything, please write and let me know.
Riluke

Kirana,
I know I don't need to tell you anything other than I'm sorry, and that I hope you didn't see too much detail.
I'm so sorry. I know there's nothing I can say to make this better. If you need anything from me, please tell me.
I love you, and I'm here for you.
Yours,
Riluke

Lonura,
I'm sure you've heard and are already doing so, but Nolani will need you more than ever now. Please be there for her since I can't.

Nolani,
I know you're heard the rumors. I know hearing it from me doesn't make it easier, but I don't want your mother to be the one to tell you.
It's true.
I wish I had better news, you can't know how hard I wish it. There are details in the official report, if you want to see, but if you don't, I'll tell you here that it looks like it was fast. Cold comfort, I know, but if it helps...I wanted you to know. He didn't suffer in dying.
My grandfather will arrange for him to be brought home soon, I'm sure. I wish I could come with him, to help you through it in any way I can. If you want, I can share the letters he's sent me with you. He always liked hearing stories, and he started telling me some. About the places he wanted to visit, some of the outlying parts of the desert he'd seen...
He spoke about you often. You meant as much to him as he meant to you. And you both mean the world to me, and I wish I could have seen the two of you again before...this.
I'm sorry I couldn't tell you he escaped. But know that, no matter what, you're loved.
And I'm here for you.
